I-42 Instrument Inspector Target

This Target is a single-line solution for Instruments that are built-in into the offset presses. 

It contains 46 patches - the first 4 solids (K, C, M, Y) are only for one specific instrument and will be ignored by the system — Instrument Inspector tracking and harmonization is based on 42 key patches.

Maximum I-42 aperture size

The Patch size of I-42 is 6 x 6 mm. According to ISO5/4, the size should be 1 mm on the radius larger then spot measurements area size. It means that max aperture capable to measure I-42 is 4 mm.

I1 Pro / i1Pro 2 and I-42 

Official X-Rite i1 Pro Hardware Specification defines Aperture Size as 4,5 mm and Illumination Spot Size to 3,5 mm. In practical application, this means that the actual aperture is slightly smaller - because the field of view of the field is practically limited to a smaller dimension.
Although it is not recommended by the manufacturer, after testing we have confirmed the practical ability to measure 6 x 6 mm patches. This is possible with spot measuring. To make repetitive measurements with the scan method - the vendor requires a patch width of at least 7 mm - remember that the instrument performs multiple measurements at the boundary of the adjacent patch at the time of movement. All these transient measurements must be discarded and the remaining averaged - If the patch size is too small to average, the measurements will be too poor of precision to give a usable result. 

If you intend on using the i1 Pro to measure I-42 you must show great care in locating each measurement point sequentially and you should measure the target multiple times saving as multiple files so when imported in Instrument Inspector, the measurements will be compared to one another and any bad measurements can be deleted.

 

On customer's demand, ChromaChecker made it possible to measure I-42 with i1 Pro instruments in Spot Mode only. This is very useful when a company only has Intellitrax and i1's, and need to harmonize the measurements between the devices. Otherwise, it is best to use the X-42 or B-42 target with the i1.
