Substrate Inspector

ChromaChecker™ Substrate Inspector is a unique tool for analyzing and collecting various technical information about substrates typically used in the Printing Industry.

Basic information about substrate is captured with X-Rite™ i1Pro2 Spectrophotometer.  Six measurements
capturing M0, M1 and M2 condition on both white and black backing are performed for each substrate
sample. Additionally, a thickness-meter/micrometer is used for thickness; a scale for grammage and gloss-meter for glossiness:

CC White Black Backing

ChromaChecker™ measurement backing offers proper condition for capturing spectral measurements.

White Backing

According to ISO:13655, white backing should have diffuse-reflecting surface.

Typical ChromaChecker QC batch production measurement:

Opacity 100% (99,3% single page) [expected value >99%}]

  1. FLuorescence = 0,0 [expected 0,0]
  2. L*= 94,6  [requirement: L* shall not exceed 97], a*=-0,94    b*= 1,34
  3. C*=1,64  [requirement - shall not be larger then 3.00], h*=125,1
  4. Reflectance for given wavelength shall bein given by ISO13655 range (380-730nm:

    0,1190 0,2258 0,4528
    0,6727 0,7738 0,8069 0,8224 0,8345 0,8453 0,8530 0,8582 0,8613 0,8619

Black Backing

According to ISO:5-4 black banking should have diffuse-reflecting surface.

Typical ChromaChecker QC batch production measurement:

  1. Average Density = 1,44 [have to be between 1.30 – 1.70]
  2. Density Range = 3,9% [expected value shall be less than 5%]
