Build Validity — Plugins Only
The application itself does not expire. The time limit that older builds carried was part of the version-4 test period, and that period is over — from 4.0.567 onward CC Capture keeps working however old the build is.
Plugins are the part still in beta, and the only part with a clock. They are under heavy development, so a release's plugins keep working for 60 days from the build date (shown in Help → About) and the counter starts again with every update. Keeping up to date is all it takes.

Operating Systems and Older Instruments
An instrument that works today can stop working after an operating-system upgrade, and the cause is usually not CC Capture.
- Vendor drivers and services. Several instruments need software from their manufacturer — a driver, a background service, a runtime. When Apple or Microsoft change how drivers are loaded or signed, a vendor component that is no longer maintained stops loading, and the instrument disappears from every application on that machine, not only ours.
- 32-bit and legacy interfaces. Instruments from the serial and 32-bit era depend on components that current systems no longer provide.
- Tightened privacy gates. Recent macOS releases require explicit permission before an application may use Bluetooth, the camera, or the local network. Until the permission is granted the connection simply fails, which looks like a broken instrument rather than a prompt nobody answered.
Before upgrading an operating system on a measuring workstation, check that your instrument's manufacturer supports that version. A colour workstation is not the machine to upgrade on the day a new system is released.
CC Capture's Run Diagnostics reports which vendor drivers and services it can find, and which system permissions have been granted — it is the fastest way to tell an instrument fault from an operating-system one.
