You are expecting an almost perfect match. If you are specifying automotive paints, plastics, or textiles, a ∆E of 1 for expectations is appropriate, but not for print. You can specify a ∆E of 1 for a drawdown of a spot color, on the exact substrate that you are printing on, if you have qualified your instruments using Instrument Inspector to an E-Factor of 0.2. Two measurement instruments (even the same make and model) can easily have an E-Factor of greater than 1 (vary by 1 ∆E), which means your tolerance is used up due to the inaccuracy of the measurement devices. The only way to attempt to make this work is by using ChromaChecker’s unique Instrument Harmonizer, which allows the software to compensate for the differences between instruments.
