Type of Color Comparison
Spot Color - Delta E
As we see with the illustration above, spot color differences can be evaluated using Delta E to determine the shift in color between patches. The lower the number the closer the match. So we can see that the first orange patch is 4 Delta E away while the second patch is closer at a 2 Delta E.
Process Color - E-Factor
Process images are made up of multiple colors and tints so we use E-Factor which is the Cumulative Relative Frequency of the 95th percentile. E-Factor works in the same way in that the lower the number, the closer the match. In the first image above an 11 E-Factor is a greater shift in color thatn the 8 E-Factor.
