Variants (optional custom feature)
The coding system is based on a small fraction of the LCH color space. The code does not refer to an exact position but to a space where more than one sample can be defined. These optional variants can be distinguished from others by a lowercase a, b, c, ... added at the end of the code. Such a need, however, appears very rarely as potential differences are often difficult to notice and are eliminated with an algorithm that checks the distance to the nearest already defined ones. The library is only open and may be required for some types of colors in the future.
Example:
8Y2.78
8Y2.78.a
Two different samples (min. difference is 1.0 ∆E 2000) are located in the same small color space defined by
C specifies Chroma as a range 80 ÷ 90- very saturated colors
hue in bin 60° -70° Orange (Yellow that is closer to Red)
with Lightness in the range of 78.00 ÷ 78.99
Variants are potential options for the future. Current analysis proves that this option will not be implemented in the public version. Differences are hard to see, and for most users, there is no need to extend the library; however, the system has this option for some custom solutions in the future. Variants require a Custom Cloud Instance and are NOT free.
