Subset Proposal
Based on your use of a color library, it may make sense to eliminate colors that are not available in your desired color gamut. For instance, if the final product is printed on a conventional offset press on coated paper, only 66% of samples can be accurately reproduced. It makes no sense to use the 3360 samples when only 2042 can be rendered accurately. Another example is if a user is designing for the internet only, then 2830 colors can be rendered accurately.
Use ChromaSpot colors within the gamut of your process.
Here are examples showing the ChromaSpot colors in the Lab color space (view from the top) compared to the gamuts of different color application uses. Each dot represents a color, and if the dots are outside of the solid lines, that means those colors are not capable of being reproduced (out of gamut) for that application use.

ChromaSpot offers predefined Subsets (draft of the list below) or, the user can use a ChromaSpot tool to create a custom library based on an ICC profile (RGB, CMYK, or nCLR) to create a subset of the colors available for desired process. This tool will allow a user to limit the colors in the library based on the colors that their computer display can render (requires Display Profile). In the same way, a user can customize a library only relevant to the printer that they use.
Details of the proposed subsets:

This list is a subject of discussion. In the future, the list will be implemented, published, and updated according to new requests from the industry. We are looking for ideas. If any manufacturing process has to limit subset — please create a color library (CC Capture + i1 Pro3) — this library should contain 1000+ samples from all regions of supported color space.
If you are manufacturing any products you want to translate into ChromaSpot — create a library (CC Capture + i1 Pro3) — use official names for the samples, and send it to us. Contact us to sign a legal agreement to publish it.
