FAQ
1. Is it possible to use other then specified software for capturing data?
No - currently it works correctly only with software listed on Compatibility List. We strongly recommend to use XRGA compatible software and the CxF data format where critical data can be specified inside the file (e.g. measurement conditions)
2. My instrument is not listed - what can I do?
Contact David Hunter: david@chromachecker.com - we will try and solve the problem, and worst case, provide a workaround.
3. My instrument is using other than specified software for everyday production - why do I have to use another one for validation?
We need data for inter-user comparison. If the instrument / software combination uses unknown settings, it makes it impossible to make comparisons. XRGA compatibility solves most problems - we need instruments working in comparable conditions.
4. Are two Target identical?
No, each target is slightly different, but differences are strictly described with production tolerances. Production batch is specified by first letter in target number. It means that all targets where serial number starts with e.g. letter "A" were produced as one batch and can be used for comparison. However, the accuracy of such comparison is reduced by potential inter-targets differences.
5. That are ChromaChecker Target production tolerances?
All target are measured 2- 6 times each. Results are used for production baseline creation. We reject all targets which are out of following tolerances:
Max ∆E < 0.55
95% ∆E < 0.45
90% ∆E < 0.35
Mean ∆E < 0.25
Std Dev. < 0.12
6. Targets are printed with inkjet technology - why not ceramic?
- We use spectrophotometers for different graphic technologies - one of them is inkjet. We can expect high accuracy also for this technology regarding vendors promises. Ceramic tiles (e.g. BRCA tiles) are far away from what we measure in our practice. Also, other materials out of our common substrates may be very different from what we use.
- When comparing different technologies, ink-jet is stable enough to produce repeatable printouts - production variations can be reduced and controlled much better than in others.
- Ceramic tiles are expensive and for many scanning devices they can be used only in a laboratory environment, where device is disassembled by high-level trained lab technicians.
7. What is the durability of the Instrument Inspector Target?
Chromachecker targets X-42; B-42 and I-42 are printed on hi-tech substrate ( nanotech) with top quality inks. Multilayer structure protects printouts from dust and stretches. Inner layer provides self-backing for exchangeable results..
There are several factors damaging the product during its use:
- Dast, inks in printing house environment – keep it clean, store in an envelope
- Most of the instruments are non-contactless – moving parts can starch surface during normal operation
- UV causes fading and aging - avoid exposure to light - store in a dark place..
Designed durability is one year and about 100 readings – This time can be longer if Target is being used with care, and stored properly.
8. Is Target waterproof? Can I clean it wit water?
Water doesn't destroy either substrate or inks, but Target is not intended to wash with water. If it becomes dirty and it is necessary to clean it, use a soft cloth moistened with a very small amount of ordinary soap, and then dry thoroughly. After cleaning wait at least 12 hours to stabilize a Target. Avoid wet cleaning, try dry first - use microfiber.
